Multiplayer Guide

Learn how Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Skirmish works, how it differs from story modes, and what to prepare before an asynchronous battle.

Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest has an online multiplayer mode called Skirmish. It lets players battle other players asynchronously, so the mode is built around online competition rather than a shared real-time story session. Prophecy and Defender have different purposes: Prophecy contains four Clan stories, and Defender challenges you to last through one run against the game's fiercest enemies.

What asynchronous Skirmish means

An asynchronous match does not require every player to be in the same live session at the same time. Skirmish is therefore a separate way to compete between story quests. The confirmed feature description does not specify match timing, ranking, rewards, or whether players can cooperate, so do not plan around a particular queue, reward track, or co-op setup.

The mode uses the game's cat and Clan setting, while the main campaign focuses on the four original stories. Build familiarity with turn-based combat before entering online play. Battles use selectable moves, Clan abilities, and enemy weaknesses; learning those choices in Prophecy gives you a clearer starting point for Skirmish.

Prepare before going online

CheckWhy it helps
Create and customize your catThe cat creator is a core part of the game
Learn several combat movesTurn-based fights reward choosing an action for the situation
Review Clan abilitiesSpecialized moves can help against rival warriors and predators
Finish an opening questThe story introduces the world and combat flow
Confirm online access for your platformSkirmish is explicitly an online mode

A short campaign session is a useful warm-up. Learn how your selected cat moves through quests, how combat turns are chosen, and how the Clan's abilities fit into a battle. Practice the game's Clan abilities and turn-based combat before entering online matches.

Keep the modes separate

Prophecy is the best place to learn the world and progress through a narrative. Defender is a focused survival run; it is not an online lobby. Skirmish is the multiplayer option and can be played asynchronously. Choosing the right mode avoids waiting for a story feature to behave like a competitive match or treating a survival run as a multiplayer campaign.

The game also includes hunting, crafting, exploration, and Clan progression. Those activities belong to the broader adventure and give you time to build confidence between online battles. On PC, choose the Steam edition associated with your account.

Quick multiplayer checklist

  1. Start with a Prophecy quest if you have not learned the combat system.
  2. Choose a few moves and understand what they do before relying on them.
  3. Select Skirmish when you want online asynchronous competition.
  4. Check your platform's online requirements and network status before starting.
  5. Treat unknown rankings, wait times, and reward details as unconfirmed until the game shows them.

This approach keeps expectations clear: Skirmish is online and asynchronous, while the game's four Clan stories and Defender challenge remain distinct modes.
